Should I go to Fairbanks or anchorage?
My advice is to fly into Anchorage. The only reason to go to Fairbanks is to see the really great museum on the campus of the U. of Alaska. Other than that, Fairbanks really has nothing note worthy. But I hear Anchorage has expanded their museum the last few years. Anchorage and the surrounding areas have more to see.
What is it like to live in Fairbanks?
Fairbanksans are spread over a very large area, with many folks hiding out in the woods. I’ve lived in both and found it quite humorous how many tour buses circled around Fairbanks. Sometimes they’d drop groups off downtown for several hours of free time and many looked bewildered or underwhelmed.
What are the best places to see in Alaska?
The Museum of the North in Fairbanks is very nice but its much smaller than the Anchorage Museum, not to mention the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage. Fairbanks is much warmer in the summer than Anchorage, so some appreciate that.
What is it like to live in Anchorage Alaska?
It’s much smaller, definitely quirkier, and while you aren’t at the base of a mountain range like the Chugach, you are close to the White Mountains, and beautiful drives into interior scenery which I find just as stunning as the more dramatic mountains around Anchorage.
